Boulder Highway's $172M Safety Overhaul: Henderson's Big Bet on Pedestrian-Friendly Future
Buckle up, Henderson! The notorious Boulder Highway is about to get a massive makeover that'll make even the Strip envious.
This $172 million project aims to transform our own "Death Road" - responsible for 25% of Henderson's traffic fatalities - into a safe thoroughfare for all.
Starting later this year, a 7.5-mile stretch will slim down from six lanes to four. But that's just the beginning.
The plan includes elevated bike lanes, wider sidewalks, and a center-running bus system to revolutionize public transit.
The three-year transformation promises improved safety with better lighting and more pedestrian crossings.
By reducing lanes, the project aims to decrease crossing times for pedestrians without sacrificing traffic flow.
With 36,000 vehicles and 10,000 transit riders daily, this reimagining of Boulder Highway is set to impact thousands.
Henderson's taking the lead, hoping others will follow suit in this high-stakes game of urban renewal.

A's $1.5B Vegas Gamble: Ballpark Deal Hits the Table with High Stakes and Big Numbers
The Oakland A's are laying their cards on the table for their $1.5 billion Las Vegas Strip ballpark, and the stakes are higher than a high-roller's last chip.
The newly revealed 90-page draft agreement with the Las Vegas Stadium Authority outlines a financial grand slam: up to $380 million in public funds, $300 million in debt financing, and a whopping $850 million from team owner John Fisher's family.
This isn't just about building a ballpark; it's a complex dance of public and private money, with strict conditions to unlock funding.
The A's must front the cost of the first $100 million to get the ball rolling on the public funds, while the last $50 million of public funds is saved for the final inning of construction.
With potential personal seat licenses, a revised non relocation agreement, and a 2028 opening day target, the A's are betting big on their Vegas future.
Now, all eyes are on the August 15 stadium authority meeting to see if this deal hits a home run.

Construction Beats the Heat: Early Bird Builders Get the Cooler Worm in New HOAs
Las Vegas is betting on worker safety, allowing construction in new HOA communities to start at the crack of dawn during the scorching summer months.
Like a high-stakes gambler adjusting their strategy, the city's shifting its schedule to beat the house – in this case, the house being the unforgiving desert heat.
From April through September, hammers can start swinging at 5 a.m. instead of 7 a.m., giving workers a two-hour head start.
This change, mandated by state law, aims to protect outdoor workers from heat exhaustion in one of America's hottest cities.
While some residents might grumble about the early wake-up call, Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui argues it's a necessary bet to safeguard those building our desert oasis.
So, if you hear jackhammers at sunrise, just remember: in Vegas, sometimes you've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, and know when to wake up early to pour concrete.
